The Laudato Si’ Action Platform is an initiative of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development inspired by Pope Francis’s encyclical letter, Laudato Si’: On Care for our Common Home.  It is a virtual platform and worldwide community taking action to care for the earth and the poor.  Participants of all backgrounds, faiths and experience levels reflect on their lifestyles, evaluate opportunities for change, and set concrete action plans that help renew our relationship with God, with others and with nature, to answer the Cry of the Earth and the Cry of the Poor.

Archbishop Gustavo Garca-Siller supports this initiative in the Archdiocese of San Antonio saying, “The goals of the Laudato Si’ Action Platform call us to a renewed commitment to care for our common home.  Our planet is a gift from God, entrusted to us to steward with love and care.  The call to protect our common home is not merely an environmental issue, but a spiritual and moral imperative.”

Laudato Si’ Reflection

…you have made him little less than a god, crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him rule over the works of your hands, put all things at his feet.
— Psalm 8:6-7

This psalm reminds us that God created us in His image and likeness and gave us the honor of ruling the world He made.  With that honor comes responsibility to care for all of creation, the natural world, as well as the people who live in it.  As Pope Francis outlines in his encyclical letter Laudato Si’ - On Care for Our Common Home, as children of God, we are connected to the natural world around us.  Therefore, the God-given dominion proclaimed in Genesis 1:26 should not be selfishly construed as domination.  As Creator, God “alone owns the world” (LS 75) and humanity is called to be stewards of these precious gifts.

Vision

In order to leave our earth a better place for future generations, we envision a faith community that cares for creation, one another, and the most vulnerable in the spirit of our shared faith.

Mission

Our mission is to implement Pope Francis’ invitation in Laudato Si’ to care for our common home through prayer, respect, attentiveness, and productive and responsible stewardship.
