During Year One of Confirmation Formation, teens should carefully pray about choosing someone who will be a good example of living the Catholic faith to their best ability.
THE SPONSOR'S ROLE
Is a role model of Christian living for the Confirmation Candidate, through daily prayer, virtue and active participation in parish life and liturgy.
Nurtures or develops a close personal and spiritual relationship with the Candidate during the Confirmation preparation years and throughout their lifetime.
Listens to and shares in the Candidates maturing struggles and triumphs in living a Christian life.
Keeps informed of Catholic Christian doctrine and values to be able to correctly answer questions when they arise.
Attend Confirmation Mass and Rehearsal. If circumstances prevent the Sponsor from attending the Confirmation Mass, a proxy can stand in place of the Sponsor if necessary.
SPONSOR REQUIREMENTS
The sponsor must be selected by the candidate and be willing to accept the role. Candidates are encouraged to consult with their parents in the selection of their Sponsor.
Only one Sponsor per Candidate.
The sponsor must be at least 16 years of age.
The sponsor must be a Catholic who has been Confirmed and has received the sacrament of the Most Holy Eucharist and lives a life of harmony with the Catholic faith and the role to be undertaken.
If married, the sponsor must be married in the Catholic Church.
The sponsor must not be bound by any canonical penalty legitimately imposed or declared.
The sponsor may not be the parent of the Confirmation Candidate.
SPONSOR INVOLVEMENT
The role of the Sponsor is very important in the Confirmation Candidate's life! We understand that many Sponsors do not live locally, we have developed a monthly message with instructions that will be sent to each of our Candidates' sponsors. Therefore, it is very important that the email address listed on the Sponsor Form is an email address that is actively used by the Sponsor. We ask that the Sponsor Form is completed by the selected Sponsor. If it is necessary for the Candidate or the Candidate's parent to complete the Sponsor Form, they must provide the Sponsor's current and correct information on the Sponsor Form.
